My Last Script: slump (2024)
INT. ROOM - NIGHT
The room is cluttered with her own books, walls full of post-its, and faded dreams. Ruth, a 20-year-old writer, sits on her couch, staring at an old journal in her hands and starts to write those words.
I am having the biggest slump of my entire life.
She puts her pencil down, starts wondering on her own.
RUTH
(VOICE OVER)
What happened to my mind?
(in scene)
What happened to all those dreams?
She takes a deep breath, closes the journal. Screen blacks out.
INT. BEDROOM - MORNING
She opens her eyes and shuts the alarm. Brushes her teeth, makes herself a cup of coffee and gets dressed for going out.
RUTH
(V.O.)
Same schedule every day. Wake up, shut that stupid alarm. Brush your teeth. Have a cup of coffee as breakfast and then leave your house for observation.
EXT. CITY STREET - DAY
Ruth walks out of her apartment building with determination. Walks on the streets and watches people.
RUTH
(V.O.)
Believe me, I work too hard to find an idea. An interesting story, which is worth to write but nothing is interesting enough to make a story.
She walks in a park and sits on a bank.
RUTH
(V.O.)
Last week, I started to take notes on people's behaviors. I take notes on my little notebook and whenever I arrive my home, I write them on my post its and stick them to my wall.
INT. ROOM - LATER
She sticks those post its to the wall and she realizes that she wrote the same thing before. That makes her mad, she rips off a few of them. She sits and looks at those colorful papers.
RUTH
(V.O.)
Nothing sudden happens here. Nothing to give me inspiration for my new book. I am doing the same exact thing every single time. I wish I just-
Phone buzzes.
She receives a text message from her friend.
FRIEND
*message* Wanna hang out?
She gets up, takes her coat and calls her friend while she leaves home.
RUTH
(while she is going out)
Hey!-
INT. CAFE - DAY
We saw them talking from far away.
FRIEND
...So, you cannot write any stories. Did I get that right?
RUTH
Yes, it's like I am done with the ideas. Nothing comes to my mind. I think I am not a writer anymore.
FRIEND
Don't say that. You never been like this before. This happens to all creative people.
RUTH
Are you sure?
FRIEND
One hundred percent. I think you should just start thinking about your experiences. You can explain yourself better than anything. Try to write yourself.
Ruth stays for a little. Thinks and sips from her drink.
INT. ROOM - LATER
She sits and starts to write her story. Writes
I am having the biggest slump of my entire life.
As the opening sentence. And when she finishes it, she gives her story a name.
SLUMP.
THE END.

My First Script: Chocolates in Numbers
INT. GROCERY STORE - DAY
We see Lily looking at chocolates in her hand. She is hesitating. Her shopping cart is filled with dietetic and green-based food products. Suddenly, a little girl appears next to Lily. Lily refuses the child by shaking her head, leaving the chocolate behind and walking away from the aisle. In a wide shot, we see the child has disappeared.
Our next glimpse of Lily takes place in the produce section. Holding a green apple tightly, she appears to be trying to calm herself down. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. Calmly, she places the apple into a bag, adds a few more apples, and puts them in her shopping cart.
EXT. STREET - DAY
We see Lily walking home with several shopping bags. (The purpose of this shot is to vaguely indicate the little girl is still following Lily.)
INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Lily enters the apartment with the shopping bags. She puts away the groceries into the cabinets (extremely organized cabinets). She arranges the necessary tools to cook on the counter and starts preparing various dishes to the accompaniment of music.
(Close-ups of chopping boards, dishes cooking, and detailed shots of presentation.)
[Detail shot of the home décor, a framed childhood photo of Lily.]
Lily takes the plated food to the table, and we get an overhead shot as she arranges them. She calmly sits at the table. We see the little girl sitting opposite her. Both characters have the same necklaces. We watch Lily start to serve herself food onto her plate. She begins eating calmly and gently at first. As the seconds pass, we witness she is eating faster and more violently. [Empty plate sequence] When Lily sees the empty plates, her eyes well up, feeling choked, she starts retching and rushes to the bathroom.
After vomiting everything she ate, Lily leans against the bathtub, sobbing. We see the little girl again in this scene.
The chocolate we saw in the first scene is again in the little girl's hand. She nudges Lily, who is sitting with her head on her knees, crying. Lily looks up at the chocolate, wipes her face, takes the chocolate from the girl's hand, looks at her, and then we fade to black.
